Review: The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry

Title: The Amaranth Enchantment
Author: Julie Berry
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Publication Date: March 3, 2009

Synopsis: When Lucinda Chapdelaine was a small child, her parents left for the royal ball and never returned. Ever since, Lucinda has been stuck in perpetual servitude at her evil aunt’s jewelry store.

Then, on the very same day, a mysterious visitor and an even more bizarre piece of jewelry both enter the shop, setting in motion a string of twists and turns that will forever alter Lucinda’s path.

In this magical story filled with delightful surprises, Lucinda will dance at the royal ball, fall under the Amaranth Witch’s spell, avenge her parents’ death, and maybe — just maybe — capture the heart of a prince.

Verdict: This book was an enjoyably fast and light paced read! A sort of Cinderella re-make. It kept you guessing till the very end. And even though I was rooting for Peter, I liked how things turned out between Lucinda and George! :))

Review: Gone by Michael Grant

Title: Gone
Author: Michael Grant
Series: Gone, #1
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Publication Date: June 24, 2008

Synopsis: In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.

Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.

It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...

Verdict: This book was ahhh-mazing!!! I loved it and could hardly put it down! I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book, because the first one was a “green-tinged” blast! lol (You will understand how funny that is once you’ve read the book!) :)

Review: To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker

Title: To Catch a Pirate
Author: Jade Parker
Publisher: Point
Publication Date: May 1, 2007

Synopsis: Once caught, it’s harder still to let a pirate go

When Annalisa Townsend’s ship is set upon by pirates in search of her father’s treasure, one of the crew, James Sterling, discovers her in the hold. When he moves to take her necklace, she begs him not to, as it is all she has left of her mother. He accepts a kiss in exchange for the necklace. “A fair trade, m’lady,” he tells her afterward, before disappearing.

A year later, with a forged letter of marque, Annalisa is intent on hunting down the wretched James Sterling and reclaiming her father’s treasure from him. But now she’s in danger of him stealing something far more vulnerable this time: her heart.

Verdict: I loved this book!!! It was a great, fast-paced read filled with pirates, treasure, and true love. I zipped through this book and abosolutely loved the main characters; Annalisa Townsend and James Sterling. If you are a fan of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean I think you wil really enjoy this book, because I sure did! :))
