Blog Tour: Anomaly by Krista McGee (Guest Post + Giveaway)

Title: Anomaly
Author: Krista McGee
Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Publication Date: July 9, 2013

Synopsis: Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.

Thalli is different than others in The State. She feels things. She asks questions. And in the State, this is not tolerated. The Ten scientists who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the world above believe that emotion was at the core of what went wrong—and they have genetically removed it from the citizens they have since created. Thalli has kept her malformation secret from those who have monitored her for most of her life, but when she receives an ancient piece of music to record as her community’s assigned musician, she can no longer keep her emotions secreted away.

Seen as a threat to the harmony of her Pod, Thalli is taken to the Scientists for immediate annihilation. But before that can happen, Berk—her former Pod mate who is being groomed as a Scientist—steps in and persuades the Scientists to keep Thalli alive as a test subject.

The more time she spends in the Scientist’s Pod, the clearer it becomes that things are not as simple as she was programmed to believe. She hears stories of a Designer—stories that fill her mind with more questions: Who can she trust? What is this emotion called love? And what if she isn’t just an anomaly, but part of a greater design?

About the Author: Krista McGee’s passion to see teens excited about serving God is a driving force behind her novels. Ever since college when she spent a summer working at a youth camp, McGee knew she wanted to invest in teenagers. Since then she’s been involved in a variety of youth ministries and currently teaches at a Christian school in Tampa, FL. McGee broke into the writing world during her time in Spain. A friend encouraged her to submit an article to a Christian girls’ magazine, and it got published. Once her family moved back to Tampa, she got the idea for her first novel, First Date, a modern take of the story of Esther. Her subsequent books, Starring Me and Right Where I Belong, are based on Rebekah and Ruth. When Krista McGee isn’t living in fictional worlds of her own creation, she spends her days as a wife, mom, teacher and coffee snob.

Guest Post:

What Made You Get into Writing?

It was 2008 and my high school English students were so engrossed in the popular vampire novels that they were completely ignoring my lectures on dangling participles and misplaced modifiers (shocking, I know!). So I read the books, and I immediately recognized why these students – the females especially – loved them so much: This was what we all crave. We want to be loved, cherished, treasured so much that someone is willing to give up everything for us, sacrifice himself for us, tell us and show us every day in many ways that we are his beloved. But these books – and the romance within their pages – fell short. No man will ever meet all our needs. No earthly romance will ever fully satisfy us. We are the Bride of Christ, and until we fully embrace that relationship, we will never be truly fulfilled.

So I thought to myself, “Someone ought to write entertaining, exciting books for teens where Jesus is the main character, wooing the girl to Himself…” That thought got stuck in my mind, wouldn’t leave. And from that thought, the idea for my first novel, First Date, was born.

God directed the next steps in ways only He could. He opened up the door for me to get an agent and, with her help, to find a publisher. I have been with Thomas Nelson publishers for almost three years now, with four books published and two more on the way. While my genres have changed, my heart remains the same: I want to write books that teens love to read, but I don’t want it to end there. I want to make teens think about who God is and who they are in relationship with him. I want them to know how very, very much they are loved, by One who will never leave them or forsake them, who will never give up on them.

Blog Tour: Addicted to You by Krista & Becca Ritchie (Excerpt + Giveaway)

Title: Addicted to You
Author: Krista & Becca Ritchie
Series: Addicted, #1
Publication Date: July 1, 2013

Synopsis: No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.

Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.

But when they go on a family boat trip, surrounded by open seas and limited male bodies in sight, Lily’s confronted with a big fear. Only one guy onboard can fill her addiction, and she’s sworn off going there with Loren Hale ever again.

Now the only person who can truly help her can barely help himself.

About the Authors: Becca Ritchie is a carnivore of pop culture, television, film and of course YA and NA books. While in college, she worked at The CW television network and put her vampiric knowledge to good use, blogging about hit series and swooning over actors’ abs. When she’s not blogging, she writes novels and has teamed up with her twin sister for their New Adult novel ADDICTED TO YOU. Available July of 2013.

Krista Ritchie is the mind behind popular trading website YA Book Exchange and created Nawanda Files, a book blog that also features books into movies news. When not pouring over entertainment news and the newest releases, she spends her time conducting research in a genetics lab. She’s happy to join forces with her sister, harnessing their twin powers to produce the first in a New Adult series.

Lo swoops in behind me, his arms flying around my waist. He sets his chin on my shoulder, hunching over a little to counter my short height with his tall. “He better have been worth it,” Lo whispers, his hot breath tickling my neck.

“Worth what?” My heart lodges in my throat; his closeness confuses and tempts me. I never know where Lo’s true intentions lie.

He guides me forward as we walk, my back still pressed against his chest. I can barely lift up a foot, let alone think straight. “Your first walk of shame in a frat house. How’d that feel?”

He plants a light kiss on my head and disentangles from me, walking ahead. “Pick it up, Calloway. I left my drink in the car.”

Check out Emblazon: A New Tween Blog

A wise person once said, “Write your name on the heart of a child.” We hope to emblazon our stories there.

Emblazon is a collection of authors–some indie, some traditionally published–who have each produced at least one children’s novel. Our audiences range from fifth grade to young adult, but we have a particular focus on ages 11 to 14. Some call them upper middle grade; others call them low young adult. They’re somewhere in the middle and can lean either way. We call them Tweens.

The first three Wednesdays of every month, we post about some aspect of reading and writing tween literature. We hope our experiences help you to emblazon your own story. The fourth Wednesday is your turn. That’s when we host a monthly feature called Tween the Weekends. We hope you’ll join us on this adventure!

Emblazon launches its first post on July 10. We also have an upcoming Sizzling Freebies bash that will be hosted on August 1 during which a great selection of ebooks will be free for one day only.

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge | Day 1

Hello my lovely bloggy followers! I have decided to do something fun this summer and participate in Good Books and Good Wine's 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge so that you lovely people can get to know me better!  :))

Day 1: Make 15-book related confessions

1. Books are sacred!
Thou shall not crease thy spine. Thou shall not dog-ear thy pages. Thou shall not buy any book that is not in pristine condition.

2. I don't like audio books.
I think audio books are great for some people- but me, I like the actual act of reading.

3. Authors are my celebrities.
Seriously. I would much rather meet Veronica Roth over Justin Bieber any day.

4. Sometimes I just sit and admire my bookshelf.
Yeah, this might be slightly weird but books are just so pretty when they're sitting side-by-side on a shelf.

5. I don't own an e-reader.
No, this isn't some protest against ebooks, because I love 'em! Trust me, I am absolutely dying to get my hands on a Kindle Fire! In the mean time, I have a Kindle app downloaded on my iPod Touch that I use.

6. Twilight is what rekindled my love for reading.
I've loved to read ever since I was a little girl. But for some reason around Middle School, I had tapered off on my reading. Then a friend let me borrow Twilight and I was once again reminded of everything I love about books!

7. I've only read the first Harry Potter book.
I know this is like a book sin! But when the first movie came out I was only 6 years old and hadn't even heard about the books yet. I've seen every single movie and consider myself a HUGE Potter nerd and promise that I will one day read the whole series.

8. I love Adult books.
This is a YA/NA book review blog, but I frequently read Adult books and will also occasionally review them on Goodreads.

9. I prefer Books-a-Million over Barnes & Noble.
Books-a-Million was the first actual all-book store I ever went to (and it was ahhh-mazing), so it holds a special place in my heart. Even if most people look at me like I'm crazy for not choosing the esteemed Barnes & Noble.

10. My love of books has influenced what job I'm going to pursue.
I love books and reading so flippin' much that I'm majoring in English with the hopes of one day working at a book publishing company.

11. If the book is free, I'll buy it.
There are tons of books on my Kindle app that I never would have otherwise bought if it hadn't been for the fact that it was free on Amazon.

12. I have A LOT of book boyfriends.
I wonder if this makes me some kind of book slut?  ;P

13. I don't always like the idea of a book I love getting turned into a movie.
When I love a book and have already got these great characters in my head, I get really apprehensive that the movie industry will just go and ruin it all! *cough* Twilight *cough*

14. I don't allow people to borrow my books.
I know book lovers are supposed to share the book-love by letting others borrow their books (I tell them to go to the library). But I am SUPER picky about how my books are treated and after having two really bad book-borrowing experiences, I quit.

15. I totally judge people who say that dislike reading.
I mean, have they even tried it? How do you dislike reading? It's a major part of everyday life! I usually just tell people that they haven't found the right genre that suits them yet.

Teaser #1:
He smiles, a faint curve of his lips that reveals the barest hint of a long dimple carved in his right cheek. “No, but I can read your expression. And I’ve been doing this long enough that I know what most people tend to think when they first open their eyes.”
“Doing what long enough?”
“This,” he says, and nothing more.
A second of silence stretches into two. Though I can’t see behind his glasses, I have the feeling he’s not looking at me anymore, that he’s scanning the area, looking for…something. But as I stare at him, I see me—tiny distorted reflections of me in the shiny, convex lenses.

Teaser #2:
I stare at the things in front of me: the Drau. I can’t look away.
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember Jackson talking about Medusa.
Don’t look at their eyes.
Their mercury eyes.
They’re poison.
They will kill me.

Teaser #3:
Color and sound explode, too bright, too loud. Even the air on my skin feels like it’s too much. My fingers go lax. The bag’s handle slides down my palm, then along my fingers to the tips, impossibly slow. The world tips and tilts and I flail for balance.
Luka grabs my hand and holds tight.
I blink. My house, my open front door, Dad, they’re all gone. My breath comes in short gasps and every muscle in my body feels like it’s knotted up tight.
I’m standing in a grassy clearing bounded by trees.
The lobby.
We’ve been pulled.

Review: Love Overdue by Pamela Morsi

Title: Love Overdue
Author: Pamela Morsi
Publisher: Harlequin
Publication Date: August 27, 2013

Synopsis: Meet Dorothy Jarrod: devotedly unsexy librarian

Buttoned-up book lover DJ is all sensible shoes, drab skirts and studious glasses. After an ill-advised spring-break-fueled fling left her mortified, she's committed to her prim and proper look. When she's hired by a rural library in middle-of-nowhere Kansas, she finally has the lifestyle to match-and she can't wait to get her admin on.

But it's clear from day one that the small-town library is more interested in circulating rumors than books. DJ has to organize her unloved library, win over oddball employees and avoid her flamboyant landlady's attempts to set her up with the town pharmacist. Especially that last part-because it turns out handsome Scott Sanderson is her old vacation fling! She is not sure whether to be relieved or offended when he doesn't seem to recognize her. But with every meeting, DJ finds herself secretly wondering what it would be like to take off her glasses, unpin her bun and reveal the inner vixen she's been hiding from everyone-including herself.

Verdict: Oh man, I loved this book! It was absolutely enchanting, endearing, and adorable. While there were a few things that I would have liked to be elaborated on, it was easy to overlook in the grand scheme of awesomeness going on in this book. This is the story of D.J. - a single, 29-year old librarian who has just moved to a small town hoping to make a fresh start; and Scott - a divorced single, 30-year old pharmacist who has lived in the same small town all his life. D.J. likes the world to see her as a very boring and uptight woman so that she's never vulnerable. The only time she's ever let her hair down to live a little was with that one guy during spring break eight years ago. When D.J. arrives in this new small town with her very cute puppy, Dew, she finds out that her landlady's son just so happens to be the same hot guy from spring break. She feels lucky that he doesn't recognize her and a little hurt, I mean how does he not remember the best night of her life? When Scott first meets D.J. he can tell that she has taken an immediate dislike to him, although he can't fathom why. He thinks there's something very familiar about her, but he never quite manage to put his finger on what it is. I loved watching these two stumble around each other, avoiding the inevitable. It was obvious to everyone how much chemistry they had, and you were just waiting for them to realize it. I loved D.J. and her work at the library. I loved James, who worked at the library with her. Scott is one hunky guy and I loved him as well. But I really had a soft spot for Viv and the relationship she develops with D.J.'s dog, Dewey, as she tries to adapt to the loss of her husband all while being the mastermind behind D.J. and Scott's relationship. In conclusion, Love Overdue is more than worthy of the five-star rating I have rewarded it and when you read it, prepare yourself for a lot of feels. :))

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Anatomy Series by Daria Snadowsky: Giveaway

Title: Anatomy of a Boyfriend
Author: Daria Snadowsky
Series: Anatomy, #1
Publisher: Random House
Publication Date: January 9, 2007

Synopsis: Before this all happened, the closest I'd ever come to getting physical with a guy was playing the board game Operation. Okay, so maybe that sounds pathetic, but it's not like there were any guys at my high school who I cared to share more than three words with, let alone my body.

Then I met Wes, a track star senior from across town. Maybe it was his soulful blue eyes, or maybe my hormones just started raging. Either way, I was hooked. And after a while, he was too. I couldn't believe how intense my feelings became, or the fact that I was seeing—and touching—parts of the body I'd only read about in my Gray's Anatomy textbook. You could say Wes and I experienced a lot of firsts together that spring. It was scary. It was fun. It was love.

And then came the fall.

Title: Anatomy of a Single Girl
Author: Daria Snadowsky
Series: Anatomy, #2
Publisher: Random House
Publication Date: January 8, 2013

Synopsis: With Judy Blume-like honesty and insight, this sequel to Anatomy of a Boyfriend is about life after first love--romance, sex, friendship, family, and the ups and downs of life as a single girl.

After everything that happened—my first boyfriend, my first time, my first breakup—jumping back into the dating game seemed like the least healthy thing I could do. It’s not that I didn’t want to fall in love again, since that’s about the best feeling ever. But as a busy college premed still raw from heartbreak, which is the worst feeling ever, I figured I’d lie low for a while. Of course, as soon as I stopped looking for someone, an impossibly amazing—and devastatingly cute—guy came along, and I learned that having a new boyfriend is the quickest way to recover from losing your old one.

The moment we got together, all my preconceptions about romance and sex were turned upside down. I discovered physical and emotional firsts I never knew existed. I learned to let go of my past by living in the present. It was thrilling. It was hot. It was just what the doctor ordered.

But I couldn’t avoid my future forever.

In Daria Snadowsky’s daring follow-up to Anatomy of a Boyfriend, eighteen-year-old Dominique explores the relationship between love and lust, and the friendships that see us through.

About the Author: Daria Snadowsky is the author of the novels "Anatomy of a Boyfriend" and "Anatomy of a Single Girl." She also contributed the essay "To Sir Anthony, With Love," to the anthology "Crush: 26 Real-life Tales of First Love."
