Cover Reveal: White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: White Hot Kiss
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: The Dark Elements, #1
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Publication Date: March 2014

Synopsis: One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Book Review: Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Origin
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux, #4
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Publication Date: August 27, 2013

Synopsis: Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

 Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

Verdict: Initial Reaction: I just finished the book..... and I'm speechless..... that ending..... Daemon...... I can't....... I can't even...... asdfghjkl;

Okay, I'm going to attempt to 'review' this book and refrain from too much fangirling. First of all, I think it's obvious that I absolutely loved it! So much stuff happened and it was so action-packed! But there were also really beautiful, tender moments between Daemon & Katy. Which leads me to.... Daemon.... *sigh* I absolutely love me some Daemon Black. And being in his head and seeing how he thinks and how much he loves his Kitten was just ahhh-mazing! I loved uncovering the mystery behind the title. I loved meeting the new character, Archer. And I absolutely loved every single page of this book! That ending.... pretty much left me writhing in agony as I await the sequel. Jennifer- you are a freakin' genius (kind of evil.....), but still a literary genius! <3

Movie Review: City of Bones

Title: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Director: Harald Zwart
Starring: Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Jemima West, Kevin Zegers, & Godfrey Gao
Release Date: August 21, 2013

Synopsis: Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.

Verdict: Whew! You guys.... what a wild ride! I absolutely loved the movie! When it was finished, I wasn't left with this icky feeling that book hadn't been done justice. All I wanted to do was buy another ticket so I could see it again!

Be Warned: Spoilers ahead!!

Now, I'll be completely honest with ya, I was never sold on Jamie Campbell Bower playing Jace because, to me, he didn't have that 'Jace look.' But Jamie more than made up for it in his portrayal of everyone's favorite sarcastically snarky and adorably arrogant Jace.

Lily Collins on the other hand looked like the perfect Clary Fray and who, I thought, played her wonderfully as well. Also, Lily and Jamie together, do make the perfect CLACE:

Robert Sheehan as Simon Lewis was an exemplary decision. He has the perfect combination of cute nerdiness & utter hotness. Also, his little argument with Jace about the cops being/not being cops was freakin' adorable. Oh, did I mention that Simon was a hottie?

Shirtless Simon.....
Now, on to the Lightwood siblings! I though Isabelle was perfectly bad-ass, I just wished we could have seen more of her personality. Alec doesn't look exactly like I pictured him, but I dig Kevin Zegers.

Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane, 100% looked the part of the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Sadly, we did not to get to see the more outrageous and strange parts of Magnus' personality. But I'm sure that will be rectified in the future movies. What was ahhh-mazingly awesome, was the teeny little scene we get between Magnus & Bane, who I ship very hard:

Now, I'm not going to be all LA, DE, LA, DE, LA and say this movie was perfection and all sunshine and daises. There were times when you could tell they were trying too hard to be funny. The first half of the movie, they were doing above and beyond awesome with how closely they stuck to the book, but then Valentine appeared and things went a little South. It was still an amazing adaptation, don't get me wrong. I loved the music, the CGI, the actors & actresses (even Valentine was yummy..... thanks to Jonathan Rhys Meyers), the sweeping shots of New York City and the Institute. But when Valentine summons demons (quite easily, I might add) when that never happened in the book, I was kind of like, "Um.... okay....?" And they totally give away the Clary and Jace siblings secret thing for the sham that it was which I totally saw coming. I mean, could you imagine the outrage of all the parents concerned over the incestuous acts done if they hadn't? Another thing, I wish they could have spread out Clary and Jace falling in love a little bit more. In the book it wasn't  insta-love, but the movie kind of made it seem that way.... I know!..... time constraints and all that, but in the movie, they literally knew each other a grand total of two days. Just sayin'. I loved Lena Headey as Jocelyn and Aidan Turner as Luke (except for.... what was up with that one strip of blonde in his hair? Was that in the books?) In conclusion, City of Bones wasn't perfect, but it was pretty freakin' close which is why I'm awarding it 5 stars!  <3

Book Review: Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters

Title: Tears of Tess
Author: Pepper Winters
Publication Date: September 6, 2013

Synopsis: A New Adult Dark Contemporary Romance, not suitable for people sensitive to grief, slavery, and nonconsensual sex. A story about finding love in the strangest of places, a will of iron that grows from necessity, and forgiveness that may not be enough.

“My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect. Then it all changed.
I was sold.”

Tess Snow has everything she ever wanted: one more semester before a career in property development, a loving boyfriend, and a future dazzling bright with possibility.

For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.

But lusty paradise is shattered.

Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.

Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can’t save her from the horror of being sold.

Can Brax find Tess before she’s broken and ruined, or will Tess’s new owner change her life forever?

Review: There is a quote by, none other than, Dr. Seuss that I feel really encompasses the essence of Tess & Q's relationship:

"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."

Tess & Q each found their own unique weirdness within each other. Their own base desires that that hated themselves for at the same time that they craved it. And they only found complete happiness when they discovered that mutual darkness was shared by someone else. Tears of Tess was just mind-blowingly awesome. Q gives Christian Grey a run for his money and is the epitome of 'tortured hero.' Tess was seriously bad-ass! In the beginning, when she was first sold, she never let those traffickers break her. All the other women cowered and cried, but Tess stood up and told them to go f**k themselves which I really admired. It takes great strength to stick up for yourself in a situation like that and Tess had it in spades. That same strength is what made her so perfect for Q. *sigh* Oh, Q...... Let's just say the alphabet will never be the same again. Also, the number line (#58!!!). Q was a completely mysterious enigma, you never really understood him, which was why that last chapter at the end was utter perfection. Tears of Tess is a story about discovering you who really are and not being afraid to embrace it. Tess went on such an intense and emotional journey and no matter what- always managed to come out on top. I absolutely loved this book- so much, that I read it one sitting because I just couldn't put it down. I can't recommend this book enough for lovers of dark erotica romance! But be warned: it will blow your socks panties off. ;)

An ARC was provided by the author.

Book Review: Becoming Bryn by Angela Carling

Title: Becoming Bryn
Author: Angela Carling
Publisher: Acacia Publishing
Publication Date: June 15, 2013

Synopsis: For months, Jesse has been envious of her twin sister Bryn and even has a crush on Bryn’s gorgeous, popular boyfriend, Quinton. When Jesse awakens from a coma to learn that everyone thinks she IS Bryn, the option of actually taking over her sister’s life is beyond tempting, but there’s a downside. She’d have to give up Ethan, her best friend and the only person she trusts. Could she actually live as Bryn for the rest of her life? And if her family and friends found out, would they ever forgive her?

Review: I don't..... I don't even know what to say. I am literally writing this review at 3:33 in the morning after staying up all night to finish this book in one sitting. My heart has been ripped out, shredded up, and then shoved back into my chest. This book frustrated me so freakin' much! I can't tell you how many times I wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into Jesse! (I could literally feel my hands clenching at times, you guys!) But this journey, no matter how painful and stupid of a decision it was for Jesse, was the most eye-opening, inspiring, and meaningful one I've ever been on. This is a one-of-a-kind story. A diamond in the rough. Not many books can literally make my stomach cramp up with nerves as I wait to see what will become of these very human characters who happen to make some monumental mistakes (I can't explain how fine a line it was between hating Jesse for what she was doing to actually understanding where she was coming from). You get to see how great a person Bryn truly was even though she made her fair share of mistakes as well, and I really loved getting a glimpse of what happens in the after. Ethan was just... *sigh*. And Anna? Absolutely angelically adorable. Summer was a ray of sunshine. But to top all of this off, I can't tell you how unprepared and taken off-guard I was by this book! The synopsis made it sound like it would a quick, light-hearted, fun little read. And the cover reinforced that idea by being light and cute. Then you start reading and..... BAM! Feels to the thousandth degree. This book needs to come with some kind of warning about the emotions you will go through. But I cannot recommend this story enough. Seriously. You need to read it. It just completely blew me away. I don't even know if I can give it a star rating! It's so beyond all that. All I can do is try to convey the enormity of this book. It has so many life lessons packed into it and all of them completely relevant to everyday life. It was just.... truly beautiful. That's all I can really say. And Angela Caring- thank you so much for contacting me about reviewing this book! Without you bringing your lovely story to my attention I might have gone through life without ever having read it; and what a tragedy that would have been. <3
